Why I Love Rustic Weddings So Much?
I love filming wedding videography in a natural and candid way as I love rustic wedding which it is not over the top. I found everyone feel relaxed and chilled in a rustic and country style wedding theme. It is not necessary to be in a formal setting for the wedding reception. Sometimes, food truck, wood-fired pizza and shared food plates on a rustic long banquet table bring a fairytale and organic wedding vibe to the life. The draping light, outdoor lawn game and country music make the wedding more intimated.
My Rustic Wedding Videography Style
Romantic, chic, organic, bohemian. These are just some words to describe my wedding videography style. I believe every rustic wedding has a unique aspect and I found lots of couple do DIY wedding in Melbourne by their own personal touch.
They would hire boho-styled furniture, fairytale draping lights and fresh floral for their barn wedding.
Some couples use their parent’s farm to create an eco-friendly and intimated wedding style in countryside Melbourne.
I use my observation skill to create a wedding video which truly reflects the wedding story rather than following the same style of every wedding movie.
There are 5 rustic locations that are best for rustic wedding cinematography that I’ve shot in the last 3 years. Some was held in an outdoor farm; some was in a forest in Dandenong ranges or a beach themed wedding in Mornington Peninsula.
Countryside Rustic Wedding Videography
Kate and Beau, they knew each other from high school and the wedding was held at the beautiful wedding venue named Perricoota Station in Moama which is at the boundary of VIC and NSW. The barn, pastel wedding color theme and wooden decoration provided perfect wedding inspirations to create a unique rustic style wedding in a breezy summer day.
The ceremony is held in outdoor with amazing floral décor, and wooden arbour. The wedding reception was held at the same venue in a chic barn. The wedding atmosphere was relaxed, in contrast to a traditional sitting down wedding, they went for the cocktail wedding, people were more relaxed and really enjoyed the food.
I have to say, we were quite lucky to catch the sunset and captured a romantic and elegant sunset video during the reception break.
Forest Rustic Wedding Video in Dandenong Range
Teghan & Michael got married on the beautiful Dandenong mountain. The wedding ceremony and reception were held at the same location inside Poet’s Lane Receptions.
It is the ideal wedding venue to create rustic wedding videos. The Poet’s Lane Receptions has a lavish forest wedding theme and the bridal party can enjoy themselves being in the natural environment surrounded by the lavish greenery.
I’ve filmed the wedding in Poet’s Lane Receptions few times over the years. The chapel and gazebo are available to have a ceremony in there. There are lots of videography opportunities onsite in Poet’s Lane Receptions, the lush evergreen tree, fountain and white bridge provided the couple a romantic and rustic wedding theme.
Poet’s Lane Receptions also has a grand bridal suite and cottage rooms for bride and groom to get ready in there. It gives options to those who want to stay here one night before the wedding so they don’t need to wake up too early on the wedding day.
Sometimes, if the couple happens to have more time for their location photo session, I’d suggest the couple to drive to one of the national parks on Dandenong mountain, the RJ Hamer Arboretum and Aflred Nicholas Memorial Gardens, they are some of the most popular wedding photo locations in Dandenong range.
Most wedding venue in Dandenong mountain have huge trees and it might block the view. For a big bridal party or bride wants to have an open space to capture a panoramic view in wedding video. The RJ Hamer Arboretum is the perfect location to do bridal party shoot nearby Poet’s Lane Receptions . It only takes 6 minutes driving from Poet’s Lane Receptions.
Homestead Rustic Wedding Video – Emu Bottom Homestead
There are so many homestead wedding venues in Melbourne. One of my favorites is the Emu Bottom Homestead, where Ruby and Tyson got married in February 2020.
The wedding day was quite a relaxed Sunny day. The Emu bottom homestead has its unique style, the rustic barn and historic homestead which seamlessly coordinated into the massive lawn area.
The wedding day went smoothly, the filming start at Tyson and his groomsmen got ready onsite of venue and headed to Ruby accommodation where one Airbnb closed to the venue.
The couple tied the knot in front of the homestead. After the ceremony, photographer-Vince and I joined in the bridal party and captured the candid videography during the location shoot. The bridal had lots of fun and laughter, the rustic style wedding video truly reflects the impressively memorable experience.
In contrast to a formal wedding venue, the Emu bottom is an exclusive place to plan a decent outdoor wedding in Melbourne. The wedding cake, florist arrange and table setting make a great combination for a bohemian and rustic wedding.

Vineyard Rustic Wedding in Yarra Valley
Yarra valley is one magical place for love birds in Melbourne to get married, from vineyards to industrial warehouse venue, Yarra Valley offers so many options. And the Yarra Valley wedding venues are perfect for those who are planning a rustic themed wedding, with the greenery and mountain lines in the background. During many years of shooting, I found the candid style of wedding videography fits perfectly with Yarra Valley.
One of the wedding I’ve done in Yarra Valley was for Steven and Khelsi’s. The couple’s chose their reception at the Zoozo Estate, a beautiful winery venue with acres of vineyards as well as a big barrel house.
After the ceremony, we took the couple and their bridal party for location photos and without too many directions and posing, we let the boys and girls naturally engage to each other. And the results were lots of laughter and fun.
Beach Rustic Wedding in Mornington Peninsula
Tara & Dale got marry at the All Smiles Sorrento in a new year eve. They found me on a YouTube channel that I uploaded wedding film. They told me they love my rustic wedding video style and whether I can make similar wedding video style in a natural and candid shoot way. I reply a big ‘YES’!
In the beginning, I am little bit worried that the couple would be nervous in front of camera, because they emphasize few times that they are expected to have a unposed videography style on their big day.
I found I was totally wrong on the wedding day, Tara & Dale is superior chilled and relaxed on the wedding day. They said they didn’t even notice I was there on the wedding day.
The wedding ceremony and reception at the same place and the decoration is simple and elegant. A rustic arch marries the local and seasonal the floral pieces. I capture a lots of seaside scenery shoot and the couple’s truly emotional expression.
The wedding reception is cocktail style, there are plenty of food palette and soft drink. I stay towards the end of the reception and I can still remember that everyone counted down the time and celebrant the new year together.
The story is never ending. Tara is coming from a small town in Queensland and Dale born in a small town in Victoria. We have lots of same experiences and background. I made friend with them. Later of years, I filmed lots of Tara & Dale’s mutual friends’ wedding. Sometimes, I met them at their friend’s wedding. We still say “hello” as I met them at the first time and Dale always gave me a big hug.
Private Home Rustic Wedding Video
Private home and backyard wedding are one of my favorite wedding genres, the Do-It-Yourself wedding enable the wedding videographer the freedom of creation and imagination.
Elizabeth and Daniel got marry in a farm where it is Daniel’s parents’ private house in Mansfield. It is quite small town with only 4787 population. The wedding can be seen as a big event in a small town, they invited lots of neighbor in Mansfield.
I can feel Daniel was a little bit nervous before the wedding ceremony, so I want him to being himself and let he have chats with boys and later on, VB bears really settled him down.
In contrast to groom, Elizabeth was quite confident and comfortable in front of camera. Her A-line bridal gown with a long train was just stunning. I filmed lots of video footages from her back when she walked with Daniel after the ceremony.
The ceremony was held on the lawn in front of house, the ceremony decoration purely followed the rustic style, two old barrels stand were set equally on the left and right, deer horn was hanged on the wooden arbour. They used pastel pink and white Austrian native flowers to give their wedding a simple and bohemian touch.
The bridesmaid has the pink color and groomsmen has the navy-blue suit and the guests have casual country style dress code. Everything, the wedding location, decoration, dress and vibe seamlessly make a romantic rustic wedding.
When we had location session, the guest was playing lawn game. The sunset was down, guests were gathering around the bonfire and the country style music played spontaneously. What is truly rustic country wedding!
